Official Plan
The North Almaguin Planning Board has provided direction to create the planning area’s first Official Plan for specified areas within its’ jurisdiction. This important project sets the framework for how the unorganized Townships of East Mills, Hardy, McConkey, Patterson, Pringle, and Wilson will grow and develop in the years ahead, while ensuring local policies align with Provincial requirements.
The purpose of this project is to:
- Create an Official Plan that is consistent with the most recent Provincial Planning Statement, the Planning Act and any other regulatory requirements.
- Provide specific policies for local issues, such as rural development, waterfront development, residential development, environmental protection, and community building and planning.
Land use planning is undertaken under the authority of the Province of Ontario. The hierarchy and land use planning in Ontario is illustrated below:

WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL PLAN
An Official Plan is a long-term policy document that guides land use, development, and growth in specific municipal planning areas. Official Plans contain objectives and policies established primarily to provide guidance for the development of a jurisdiction.
The policies contained within the Plan are intended to form the basis for decisions made by the North Almaguin Planning Board, members of the public and government agencies with respect to land use in the unorganized townships. This plan will assist the Planning Board with their decisions related to severances and the subdivision of land. It could lead to the creation of a Zoning By-law, in the future, but this is not part of this project.
